Robert Heilman Through Letters. In a new book, Robert Heilman's life—including his years as chair of the Department of English—is presented through letters to and from colleagues and renowned writers from Theodore Roethke to Wallace Stegner.
DNA Sequencing Method Shows Promise. Scientists in Jens Gundlach's biophysics lab are developing a faster, less expensive method for sequencing DNA.
 
Awards and Honors
Best & Brightest 2009. Recipients of this year's UW Recognition Awards include nine Arts & Sciences faculty, staff, and students.

Fulbright-Hays Success. Five UW doctoral students—more than ever before—have received prestigious Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Fellowships. All five are from the College of Arts & Sciences.

Other Awards and Honors. National Academy of Sciences membership, an NSF CAREER grant, and honorary doctorates are among the honors bestowed on A&S faculty in recent months.
