The Last Polar Bear: Facing the
Truth of a Warming World

For ten years, wildlife photographer Steven Kazlowski literally tracked the plight of the polar bear across its rapidly shrinking Arctic habitat. In this Burke Museum exhibition, see more than 50 photographs of this mysterious creature; the photos address global warming and its emerging effects on Arctic wildlife. UW Chamber Dance Company
20th Anniversary Concert

In honor of UW Chamber Dance Company’s
20th anniversary, the company takes stock of the sweeping and rich repertoire of modern dance. The evening starts at the beginning of the modern dance movement with three new reconstructions of Loïe Fuller’s choreography (circa 1895); it then highlights the work of choreographers who followed, including Joseph Gifford, Twyla Tharp, David Dorfman and Dan Froot, and Doug Elkins. 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday; 2 p.m. Sunday.

Centennial Lecture Series

In 2009, four A&S departments—Near Eastern Languages and Civilization, Asian Languages and Literature, Scandinavian Studies, and the Jackson School of International Studies—will celebrate their centennial. The Centennial Lecture Series will present faculty from these departments speaking on a different provocative topic each week, with a panel discussion following each talk to underscore the four departments’ interconnectedness.
