When Tunisians went to the polls in October, Communication Professor Philip Howard was there as an official observer. The experience dovetailed with Howard's research on the role of information technology in Islamic politics.

UW Team Takes Top Honors in iGEM World Championships

A team of UW undergraduates, including many from the College of Arts and Sciences, earned first place in the prestigious iGEM competition that has students design and build biological systems.

Chemistry Professor Larry Dalton, whose research has drastically improved the performance of electro-optic materials, has received the 2011 Linus Pauling Award for his outstanding contributions to the field of chemistry.
