Diversity Minor

The Diversity Minor is designed to strengthen students’ understanding of how race, class, gender, disability, ethnicity, nationality, sexuality, religion, and age interact to define identities and social relations. It brings cohesion to the different kinds of courses designed to increase students’ critical thinking about diversity. The Diversity Minor hence provides an avenue for students to gain knowledge, skills and perspectives that are essential to civic participation, employability, and quality of life after graduation.


Initiatives

  • Early Fall Start Programs: The College of Arts & Sciences has joined with UW Extension and Outreach and the Office of Undergraduate Education to offer students a chance to enhance their university experience throughout their UW careers.
  • Advancing the Learning Environment: The Colleges of Arts & Sciences, Engineering, the Business School, and the Office of Undergraduate Education collaboratively address the UWs continuing needs to sustain innovative and technologically-sophisticated undergraduate learning in a time of diminishing resources and increasing student demand for courses and degree programs.
  • Carnegie Initiative: Teachers for a New Era: The College of Arts and Sciences, in partnership with the College of Education and the Office of the Provost is participating in a new program to build a sustainable system of support for teachers. The University of Washington was designated by the Carnegie Corporation of New York to receive one of eleven "Teachers for a New Era" grants.
  • Writing Council: The College Writing Council and its Director John Webster were established by the recommendation of the Undergraduate Curriculum Writing Committee.


Reports

Our strategic planning efforts and workshops have produced consensus on several common goals. As a result, task forces were appointed to identify challenges, and solutions for achieving these goals.
